United Nations unabashed sponsor of hatred, racism and anti-Semitism, Re: Hatefest III, New York Post, September 22, 2011

The Palestinian statehood bid isn’t the only farce unfolding at the United Nations in New York this week.

The UN is holding Durban III to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Durban 1. Durban 1 was a United Nations sponsored conference held in Durban, South Africa which provided a platform for purveyors of hatred towards Jews and Israel to spout their bile. It was marked by flagrant anti-Semitism and perversions and distortions of reality and ignored and gave a free ride to human rights abusers everywhere while falsely accusing Jews and Israelis of being racist hatemongers who created an apartheid state in Israel. It was xenophobic, biased and anti-Semitic in the extreme and was a travesty which bore no resemblance to life in the real world at all. Durban II was more of the same and Durban III is going to be just like its predecessors.

Led by the United States, 14 countries have pulled out of Durban III and disavowed themselves from its preordained “conclusions’. The other 13 countries are Australia, Austria, Britain, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, France, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, the Netherlands and Poland. All 14 should be commended for taking a principled stand against hatred, racism and anti-Semitism.

On the other hand the 179 member nations of the UN who are participating in the farce that is Durban III should be condemned for doing so because participation is an implicit endorsement of the conference, its “conclusions” and everything it represents. The United Nations itself should also be condemned and held to account because by sanctioning, sponsoring and organizing the vile display it placed itself firmly on the side of hatred, racism and anti-Semitism, firmly on the side of bigots, Jew haters, historical revisionists and advocates of genocide. Not only it it tell the world that it agreed with hatred, racism and anti-Semitism, it showed the world that it sponsored it.

How to hold the United Nations to account? There’s only one way really. Defund it. The United States needs to take the lead in this too because the US supplies 22 per cent of the overall UN budget, a far higher percentage than any other country. America should withdraw these funds because the United Nations has turned into an ugly entity that is completely at odds with American values and principles, completely at odds with all that America stands for. It should also kick the UN out of New York, out of the US, because an organization that sanctions and sponsors hatred, racism and anti-Semitism violates American law and should have no place in America.
