It is Hamas in Gaza that is responsible for the outbreak of the violence….There is no justification for firing rockets on Israel which are causing massive suffering to the Israeli population. The Chancellor urges those responsible in the Gaza Strip to immediately stop firing on Israel
Spokesperson for Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany.
Angela Merkel’s statement is representative of pronouncements made by governments and international organizations around the world which have strongly supported Israel’s right to defend itself, which have strongly condemned Hamas for attacking Israel and provoking the Israeli response in the first place and which have called upon Hamas to stop firing rockets into Israel as a precursor to ending hostilities. The United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and many, many others (even the European Union, which has long been hostile to Israel and all things Israeli) have all said more or less the same thing…Hamas is to blame for the Israeli attack on Gaza because it provoked Israel into attacking with its own attacks on Israel, Israel has every right to defend itself and its response is entirely justified and Hamas must stop firing rockets into Israel from Gaza for a ceasefire to happen.
Merkel and the others are absolutely right. Hamas is entirely to blame for all the destruction, suffering, bloodshed and death in Gaza and Israel. Hamas chose to attack Israel and is choosing to keep on attacking. Israel has in fact restrained itself so far. It has responded with air and sea power and has not sent ground forces into Gaza to fight Hamas, which would escalate matters exponentially. If Israel does send ground forces into Gaza to fight Hamas the blame will be entirely on Hamas as well because it will have chosen to keep on attacking Israel, leaving Israel no choice but to respond in force. After all, what else can Israel do to prevent Hamas from constantly firing rockets into the country, from constantly trying to terrorize the population, destroy as much property and infrastructure as it can and murder or maim as many Israelis as possible ? Nothing, that’s what.
And please, stop yourself before you say ‘negotiate’ or ‘make concessions’ or other such drivel. Israel has been negotiating and making concessions since she first came into existence, to absolutely no avail. The problem is Hamas and its Arab/Islamic brethren do not want to live side by side in peace and security with Israel. Hamas and its Arab/Islamic brethren want to destroy Israel and remove it from the face of the earth…they want to wipe Israel off the map and get rid of the Jewish presence in their midst. That’s what’s behind the violence of the past, that’s what’s behind the current violence and that’s what will be behind future violence. And make no mistake, future violence there will be. Until the Arab/Islamic world accepts Israel’s legitimate right to exist and allows her to live in peace and security with her neighbors there will be outbreaks like the present one. Since that isn’t going to happen anytime soon there will be many more outbreaks to come.
Upset are you? Don’t blame Israel or Israelis for doing what they have to do to survive. No one wants peace more than them. Blame Hamas and its Arab/Islamic brethren for making peace impossible, for all the violence, destruction, suffering, bloodshed and death. It could all end in a moment if they wanted it to, if they allowed it to. Blame them alright. And then hold them to account and do something about it.
In the meantime, you really have to admire Israel and Israelis for showing extraordinary courage and fortitude and for surviving and thriving as a small, free, democratic, humane country against all odds, for showing extraordinary courage and fortitude and for surviving and thriving as a small, free, democratic, humane country while surrounded by 70 million odd people who have done nothing except try and destroy her since she first came into existence, for showing extraordinary courage and fortitude and for surviving and thriving as a small, free, democratic, humane country and not descending into the barbarity and savagery of her enemies, for showing extraordinary courage and fortitude and for surviving and thriving as a small, free, democratic, humane country and keeping her fate in her own hands.
You also of course have to revile Hamas and its Arab/Islamic brethren for their hatred, violence, barbarity and savagery and for all the destruction, suffering, bloodshed and death they have caused over the years.
Merkel was wrong about one thing. Hamas and its Arab/Islamic brethren justify firing rockets into Israel and have no hesitation in doing so.
How do they justify it?
