Robert Spencer is an acknowledged expert on Islam and Jihad and has been a public, courageous and fierce critic of both for many years.
His credentials are impeccable. He has studied Islamic theology, law and history in depth for over 30 years, has authored 12 books, has lectured extensively to the American defense and intelligence communities, has written over three hundred articles about Jihad and Islamic terrorism, is the Director of Jihad Watch, a program of the David Horowitz Freedom Center which raises awareness about the reality of Islam and Jihad and how they manifest themselves in the world and speaks regularly on various talk shows and at conferences and other public forums.
Among other things.
In short, the man knows what he is talking about.
Not surprisingly Islamists attack him personally and professionally on a regular basis and try to either censor him or shut him up entirely. Islamists constantly try and take away his right to express himself freely and openly about Islam and Jihad, constantly try and take away his right to free speech and freedom of expression. That is because what he does brings Islam and Jihad out of the shadows and exposes them to the light of day. Islamists know that Islam and Jihad cannot withstand scrutiny and that most people would be horrified if they really knew what they were all about and about their activities around the globe, which is of course why they do everything they can to keep others in the dark about both and keep anyone from shining light on them.
Spencer was scheduled to appear at a Catholic Men’s Conference in Worcester, Massachusetts on March 16 but his appearance was cancelled by the Bishop of Worcester after he received pressure from Islamists who did not want him to speak and did not want anyone to hear what he had to say. That is a very typical response and a direct, frontal assault on freedom of speech and freedom of expression. Freedom of speech and freedom of expression are anathema to Islamists and shutting down appearances, discussions and other forms of expression is part of their modus operandi, part of their war against them. Freedom of speech and freedom of expression mean nothing to Islamists, or obviously to the Bishop either. All that matters is keeping people from learning about Islam and Jihad as they really are. Spencer and others like him tell the world the truth about Islam and Jihad and Islamists and Islam can’t stand that.
The Bishop’s decision to cancel Spencer’s appearance is more than a direct, frontal assault on his right to express himself freely and openly about Islam and Jihad, on his right to freedom of speech and freedom of expression. It is also a direct, frontal assault on your right to listen to what he (or anyone else Islamists don’t like for that matter) has to say, on your right to form your own thoughts and conclusions about Islam and Jihad and on your right to express those thoughts and conclusions as you see fit if you wish to. It is a direct, frontal assault on your right to speak freely and express yourself freely and is entirely indefensible, unconscionable and un-American. As free people living in a free country you have every right to listen to Spencer or anyone else speak about Islam or Jihad, you have every right to form your own thoughts and conclusions about them and you have every right to express those thoughts and conclusions as you see fit if you wish to. Islamists would take those rights away from you.
From me and everyone else too.
There can only be one response if freedom of speech and freedom of expression, freedom period actually, mean anything at all to you.
Stand with the Spencers of the world and don’t let them.
