Peace process never had a hope of succeeding and was always a waste of time and energy anyway, Re: The Mideast peace process peters out, Washington Times, April 8, 2014

Current attempts to negotiate peace between Israel and the Palestinians are effectively dead, which should come as no surprise to anyone.

Good. The current peace process, like all attempts to achieve peace before it, never had a hope of succeeding and was nothing more than a waste of time and energy anyway, time and energy which could have been spent far more productively elsewhere.

Perhaps now that this latest attempt has reached the end of the line Israelis, Americans and everyone else will recognize the futility of trying to make peace with people who demonstrably don’t want it and will stop pandering to them in order to achieve the impossible. Perhaps now that this latest attempt has reached the end the line the world will recognize the Palestinians for the obstructionists, pseudo-victims and charlatans they really are. Perhaps now that this latest attempt has reached the end of the line the Israelis and Americans will take their ball and go home as it were and leave the Palestinians to their own devices because they recognize and understand at long last that Palestinian intransigence, behaviour and attitudes are the true impediments to peace and always have been and that nothing will change until they do. Perhaps now that this latest attempt has reached the end of the line Israelis and Americans will stop wasting their time and energy on efforts that are bound to fail.

The simple fact of the matter is that Israel wants peace and has done everything possible to secure it over the years whereas the Palestinians don’t want peace and have done everything possible to prevent it over the years, including lying and breaking their word regularly and frequently (among a great many other things) on occasions which are almost too numerous to count. The simple fact of the matter is that if the Palestinians truly wanted peace and truly wanted their own state they could have had both many years ago. The simple fact of the matter is that the Palestinians have rejected peace and rejected their own state many times since Israel first came into existence. The simple fact of the matter is that there is no peace and there is no Palestinian state living in safety, security, harmony and friendship next to Israel because the Palestinians won’t allow either to happen, have never allowed either to happen.

Given their track record right up to the present time there is no point whatsoever time in talking to them about anything, least of all peace or their own state. Given their track record right up to the present time there is no point whatsoever in believing anything they say or have ever said. Given their track record right up to the present time all anyone can reasonably expect from them is more of the same. Given their track record right up to the present time thinking that they are interested in peace and their own state living in safety, security, harmony and friendship next to Israel and are capable of achieving either is delusional.

The Israelis and Americans really should take their ball and go home as it were.

What’s the point in wasting their time and energy after all?

There is none.

Perhaps that will cause the Palestinians to finally come to their senses.

Nothing else has.

I see that Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel has just instructed instructed all government ministries except Defence and Justice to cease civilian and economic cooperation with the Palestinian Authority.

Now if only the Americans would do the same we might get somewhere.
