What are those parentheses doing there?, Re: France, Islam and the ‘Spreading Hatred’, Wall Street Journal, April 15, 2014

The parentheses in the Wall Street Journal headline should not be there and the Journal was irresponsible and did a terrible disservice to its readers by placing them there. They cast doubt on the fact that Islamists acting in the name of Islam are spreading hatred and intolerance throughout France and that the hatred and intolerance they are spreading is changing the nature and character of the country from French to Islamic…they cast doubt on the fact that Islamists acting in the name of Islam are attacking and usurping French values and traditions and institutions and laws and the French way of life everywhere in France…they cast doubt on the fact that Islamists acting in the name of Islam have already taken over many areas of the country and that many areas of the country are already under their control and French values, traditions, institutions, laws and the French way of life might as well not exist in these areas…they cast doubt on the fact that Islamists influence and depredations and outright flouting of all things French in favor of all things Islamic is large and growing and shows no signs of slowing down or being stopped. The parentheses are deceptive in the extreme because there is no doubt whatsoever that Islamists acting in the name of Islam are spreading hatred and intolerance and an Islamic way of life throughout France. This is not a figment of anyone’s imagination and French men or women that haven’t got their heads in the sand or been cowed into submission or aren’t fellow travellers of the Islamists will admit it.

So what are those parentheses doing there?

I don’t know.

You’ll have to ask the Wall Street Journal Journal if you want an answer.

I just know they shouldn’t be.

I just know that their presence means that Journal readers did not get an honest, objective or accurate picture of the situation in France and that they colored the story from the very beginning.

The Journal should have known better.

The Journal should have done better.

Oh, and by the way, things aren’t any better in the rest of Europe.

Oh, and by the way, the Islamic threat in the United States, Australia, Canada and the rest of the West is also large and growing. Islamists acting in the name of Islam are spreading their doctrine and attacking and usurping Western values, traditions, institutions, laws and the Western way of life everywhere in the West, not just in Europe.

That’s not a figment of anyone’s imagination either.
